How to Achieve Your Goals in 2023

I’m not big on new years resolutions, but I do think that goal setting has a place and some value, so I wanted to give a few tips that I’ve learned over the years about how to set achievable goals in 2023.

Often times people are a bit too vague on their goals. They say things like “I want to move more” or “I want to eat healthier” but they don’t define exactly what that means or how they’re going to do it.

So something I suggest when you’re setting goals is to get really specific.

Get specific about what healthier means.

Get specific about how you’re going to do it.

Get specific about when you’re going to do it.

A lot of this is taken from the concepts in the book Atomic Habits by James Clear – which, if you haven’t read this book you should go add it to your Amazon right now cause it’s an incredible book.

Some Examples of Writing Your Goals:

Goal: I want to move more

How: Every Tuesday I’m going to take a 6pm yoga class. Every Wednesday morning I will take an 8am mobility class. I’ll workout with my trainer or go to the gym at 7am every Thursday.

Goal: I want to hit 10k steps daily

How: I’ll walk around my house when I’m on the phone. I’ll walk while I’m brushing my teeth. I’ll take 10 minute walk breaks for every 1 hour of work either around my house or stepping outside or on a treadmill.

Goal: I want to eat healthier

How: I’ll make sure my plate has 1/3 protein, 1/3 veggies, and 1/3 carbs with healthy fats. I’ll use avocado in place of mayo.

Goal: I want to read more

How: I’ll read 10 minutes every day as I drink my coffee. I’ll read 10 minutes every day before bed.

The more specific you can get about how you’re going to achieve this goal and what you really mean by this goal, the more likely you are to hit that goal because you’ve given yourself instructions and a roadmap on how to achieve it.

I hope this helps you crush your goals in 2023!
